Spring Cleansing for Your Skin

Here in Santa Cruz, CA, there's been plenty of sunshine and warm weather which really signals the start of Spring -- one of my favorite times of the year!

With that comes a popular term "Spring cleaning" which can mean different things depending on who you're talking to.

Spring cleaning to me includes intentionally cleansing your body through simple acts of detoxification through diet and self-care practices.

What is detoxification and why is it SO important?

Detoxification is the process of eliminating toxic substances that we are exposed to (e.g. chemicals, pollutants) and the metabolic wastes that our minds & bodies produce daily.

Your intelligent body is able to detoxify on its own, but when factors like exposure to toxic substances or diet/lifestyle choices come into play, this can interfere with natural detoxification processes resulting in an increased toxic load.

Which can affect your health and your mood (e.g. poor digestion, fatigue, headaches, sleep issues, weight gain, allergies, skin issues, puffiness, etc)and it can eventually lead to chronic illness!

Thankfully there are a variety of ways we can reduce our toxic load and one of my favorites is by regularly supporting our lymphatic system.

Because your lymphatic system plays a key role in your body's immunity as well as getting gorgeous, glowing skin!

What does your lymphatic system have to do with your skin?

Your lymphatic system contains a fluid called lymph which, unlike blood, does nothave its own pumping mechanism (ie. your heart).

Lymph requires exercise, movement, or manipulation in order to flow, and thankfully there are facial massage techniques like Gua Sha that can help promote lymphatic drainage as well as boost blood flow and circulation.

The benefits of using a Gua Sha tool

A more sculpted face, less puffiness, fewer fine lines, and skin that absolutely glows!

If you're wondering how this is even possible, here's an introduction to Gua Sha, a modern day beauty tool with roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine, dating back to ancient times.

There are so many Gua Sha tools available right now - different gemstones, styles, and shapes - and it can be very overwhelming!

So here's a video to help you decide which Gua Sha tool is right for you and your personal needs.

Are you familiar with the practice of Gua Sha?
